HISTORY

Preparing the soil in the greenhouse at Nuthurst Allotment, Horsham

How It All Began

The Nuthurst Community Allotment is located on the former site of Architectural Plants, a family-run nursery celebrated for its exotic plant collections. The land, owned by Angus and Fran White the nursery’s founders, became the foundation for a new chapter in 2020. Recognising its potential, they generously donated the site and played a pivotal role, alongside local residents, in transforming it into the beautiful allotment it is today.

The project began with the clearing of unused existing structures and the preparation of the land and greenhouses ready for cultivation. By early 2021, a dedicated group of volunteers had established raised beds and initiated the planting of various crops. The allotment has since evolved into a thriving community, fostering collaboration among members who collectively tend the land and share in all of its bounty.
